We are delighted to welcome chess players to play in the Chess Educators International Open Tournament. This is a weekend event open to all chessplayers.

FIDE RULES APPLIED —Ratings: FIDE June List. USCF June rating supplement.

USCF Rules apply and section placement is based on USCF rating— conversion for foreign players. USCF membership required.

Tournament Format

This competition will be played as a 5 rounds Swiss tournament.

Sections: All sections are USCF and FIDE rated.

There are 5 sections in this event; minimum 10 players for each section. Sections with less than 10 players may be combined:

  • Open
  • Under 2100
  • Under 1900
  • Under 1700
  • Under 1500

Time Control:

90 min/40 moves + 30 minutes for the rest of the game with a 10 second delay starting on move 1. Default time at the beginning of all rounds will be 30 minutes.

Entry Fees

Tournament Registration Fee: US $99 per participant by May 18, 2017; US $109 by June 1, 2017 & US $120 After June 2, 2017.


The Organization will issue letters of Invitation for Visa purposes.

  • Open Section: 1st $2,600, 2nd $1300, 3rd $800, U/2200 1st $500, 2nd $250
  • U/2100 Section: 1st $800, 2nd $400, 3rd $200
  • U/1900 Section: 1st $700, 2nd $350, 3rd $175
  • U/1700 Section: 1st $600, 2nd $300, 3rd $150
  • U/1500 Section: 1st $500, 2nd $250; U/1200 $125
 Unrated players can only win up to $100, unless they are playing in the open section.

Individual reservations may be cancelled without penalty outside of 72 hours prior to arrival. If cancelled within 72 hours of arrival the Hotel will charge a minimum of 1st night’s room and tax Cancellation fee. Any no-show reservations will be charged 1st night’s no-show room and tax.

All players who earn a prize over $600 will be required to fill out a tax form and we will declare their taxes. The tax amount will be reduced from the prize.

Electronic Devices will not be allowed in the FIDE World Junior Chess Championship for the Disabled. For the Chess Educators International Open, we will follow US Chess Federation rules and Continental Chess’ recommendations.

*The Organization will provide transportation for families from June 21 to June 30. We will have a minivan for wheelchairs, electrically-operated ramp as well as two ADA* compliant wheelchair positions. Wider doors, spacious aisles, and waist high luggage racks are also designed to make traveling easier and more comfortable. The *fee per person for this service is $50.00; this fee includes trip from the airport to the hotel and from the hotel to the airport.

The minivan will be available for special trips and excursions for an special fee as per case basis.
