Overview

We are delighted to announce the organization of the 1st World Junior Chess Championship for the Disabled.

This championship will be held in Orlando, Florida, USA from June 22-29, 2017.

This is the official invitation to all eligible participants, as approved by the FIDE Commission “Chess for the Disabled” (DIS).

The FIDE World Junior Chess Championship for the Disabled is an event only for disabled chess players who are under 20 years old as of June 22, 2017. Each relevant chess association (IBCA, IPCA, ICCD) regulates the conditions of their participation.

The FIDE World Junior Chess Championship for the Disabled is held as an individual open tournament. The event will provide an special recognition to the top players under 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 & 20.

A team may represent a National Federation. All the players of a team must be members of the same federation. National Federations must have at least two players to make a team, although no maximum number of players. The top three scores of team members will count as the team score for championship purposes.

Tournament Format

The competition will be played as a 7-round Swiss tournament.

90 min/40 moves + 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move, starting from move 1. Default time at the beginning of all rounds will be 30 minutes.

Registration

Registrations shall be made through the official website at www.chesseducators.com.

A copy of the National Federation endorsement must be emailed to the organizer prior to the start of the championship. The complete registration form shall include the surname/s, first name/s, FIDE ID number, FIDE rating and passport number (for visa purposes). The organizer wishes a pre-registration to be made by 20 June 2017.

Letter of Invitation for Visa purpose.

The Organization will issue letters of Invitation for Visa purpose. The letter must be requested by the National Federations at least three months prior to the date of travel.

Includes FIDE World Junior Chess Championship for Disabled Tournament Registration Fee and FIDE Fee (per participant):  

  • US $140.00 by May 1, 2017
  • US $160.00 by June 1, 2017
  • US$180.00 After June 2, 2017

 

The overall winner obtains the title:

  • FIDE World Junior Chess Champion for Disabled”
  • FIDE World Junior Chess Champion for Disabled – Blind Section”
  • FIDE World Junior Chess Champion for Disabled – Deaf Section”
  • FIDE World Junior Chess Champion for Disabled – Physically Disabled Section”

Special Awards to the Top Player Under 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 & 20.

Team Prizes

In the team rankings, the top team obtains the title:

  • “World Junior Chess Champion Team of Disabled”

The Team winners obtain Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.

Hotel Information

Players must stay at the official hotel, exception can be made on a case by case basis. Service Dogs are welcomed, but participants must notify the event organizers, email to info@chesseducators.com

The bill has to be paid on the day of arrival at the reception of the hotel. This rate is only available for attendees who make a registration before June 5, 2017.

Reservation Method:

Individual reservations may be cancelled without penalty outside of 72 hours prior to arrival. If cancelled within 72 hours of arrival the Hotel will charge a minimum of 1st night’s room and tax Cancellation fee. Any no-show reservations will be charged 1st night’s no-show room and tax.

9. Final Standings

The ranking depends on the number of points earned by players and teams.

Tie-breaks:

  1. Direct encounter (if all the tied players have played each other).
  2. The greater number of wins.
  3. The greater number of games with Black (unplayed games count as played with White).
  4. Buchholz Cut 1
  5. Buchholz
  6. Sonneborn-Berger will be announced at the technical meeting.
