Did you know that studying and playing the game of chess engages both left and right sides of the brain? Chess has unique features that help children develop essential skills that can be applied, not only to the game of chess, but, to math, reading, sharpening logical skills, pattern recognition, thinking ahead and much more.

Our chess program uses an interactive and hands-on approach for students to learn chess. Students participate in engaging activities that allow them to learn and improve with the game of chess using fun and effective strategies.

The program is open to Grades K-5. Each class has a Student/Coach ratio of 1:18 or better! Classes include 1 coach and an assistant.

Novice, Intermediate and Advanced Levels

Chess classes take place in school classrooms, with students assigned to groups based on their chess experience. Getting to know the children is especially important for the placement process. Careful thought and consideration goes into these decisions to ensure that all students get the most out of their chess education. Our class tournament practice allows children to get to know each other across the 3 groups, Novice, Intermediate and Advanced levels!  Students will also receive chess homework assistance during a portion of each class. Chess labs help!

Frequently Asked Questions and Need to Know

Does my child need to bring supplies?

We provide all equipment: chess sets, boards, worksheets, and all related items.

Does my child need to bring a snack?

YES, students should bring a snack for chess class. Snacks are not provided. We have a ‘No Nuts’ and ‘No Food Sharing’ policy in all Chess & Education classes. By enrolling in the program, you agree to abide by this policy. Some children have allergies and chess is a very hands on activity.

Be sure to put a ‘Chess Snack’ label to ensure that your child does not eat their chess snack before chess class. Children’s biggest complaint are not enough snacks packed for the day, forgotten snacks, they dislike their snacks etc. This is a long class, please be sure your children come prepared.

Authorized Persons for Student Pick Up

We have a strict policy for dismissal. Students will only be released to the person/s on your ‘Chess Program: Authorized Persons for Pick Up’ list, indicated on your registration form.

Only Authorized Parent/Guardian can request changes

Please refer to the information provided in the parents/guardians ‘welcome letter’ for complete details.

Temporary changes to your student authorized person pick up list.

A ‘temporary’ change or one time authorization for pick up may be needed if a child is going on a play date, being picked up by a visiting family member etc. This authorization follows the same protocol as indicated above. Help us prevent confusion and delays at dismissal - let us know of ‘temporary’ changes before 10am or sooner.

Where do I pick up my child?

Information related to pickup, check-in, check-out will be provided to all students enrolled in the program. You will receive this information in your ‘welcome letter’.

Early Pick Up Requests

We understand that children may sometimes need to be picked up early. If parents arrive ahead dismissal, without advance notice, they must wait for students to be dismissed as a group.

In order to prevent disruptions to classroom activities, please review the guidelines sent in your ‘welcome letter’.
