Challengers and Championship Sections for ALL Chess Players Grades K-12
Parent supervision is required.

HALLOWEEN FUN! WEAR YOUR HALLOWEEN COSTUME AND PLAY FOR YOUR SCHOOL! TREATS AND PRIZES!
Costume Prizes:  Spookiest Costume, Cutest Costume, Most Original Costume, Best “Chess” Costume. One prize per winning participant.

AWARDS:

• Trophies for Top 10 players in each Section, with medals to all other participants! 
• Team Trophy for Top Three Schools in each Section. Minimum 2 players from the same school. Top 3 individual scores count towards the school team’s score.
• The 1st Place Winner of the Championship Section will win one free ticket to visit the World Chess Championship Match in New York. In case of a tie, the tie-breaker will be a play-off.

Chess sets will be provided. Please bring your chess clock if you have one.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT:  Swiss System. All Sections are Rated. Sections may be combined.

USCF membership is mandatory. Membership sign-up is available onsite.

TOURNAMENT SECTIONS and SCHEDULE:

• Announcements and Player Check-In: 12:00 p.m. – 12:30 p.m. Rounds begin at 12:30 p.m.
• K-1 Open Section: 12:30 p.m – 4:00 p.m; Awards Ceremony 4:30 p.m; 4 Rounds; Game 25; 5 sec delay
• 2-4 Open Section: 12:30 p.m – 4:00 p.m; Awards Ceremony 4:30 p.m; 4 Rounds; Game 25; 5 sec delay
• 5-8 Open Section:  12:30 p.m – 4:00 p.m; Awards Ceremony 4:30 p.m; 4 Rounds; Game 25; 5 sec delay
• Challengers K-12; Minimum rating 900+:  12:30 p.m – 5:00 p.m; Awards Ceremony 6:30 p.m; 3 Rounds; Game 55; 5 sec delay
• Championship K-12; Minimum rating 1300+:  12:30 p.m – 5:00 p.m; Awards Ceremony 6:30 p.m; 3 Rounds; Game 55; 5 sec delay

ENTRY FEES:

• Free entry for players USCF rated 1500 and above.  Send email to: info@chesseducators.com for rating confirmation, eligibility and registration.

All other players:

• Free Entry for Chessplayer with USCF rating of 1500 and above.
• $40 if received by Oct. 17. 2016.
• $50 if received between Oct. 18 – Oct. 22, 2016 until 8pm day before the tournament.
• $60 On Site Registration (Closes 15 min, before the start of Round 1)

How to Get There

Directions to 15 Waterside Plaza:

 

By Car and approaching from south of 23rd Street: FDR Drive to the 20th-23rd Street exit, then onto the FDR Drive Service Road (along the East River) to 25th Street. Enter the Waterside Plaza complex go past the marina & UNIS. Parking is available for a fee at both the Marina at 23rd Street and at Waterside Plaza. Building 15 is on the Plaza level. To access the Plaza level take the main staircase just north of the parking garage entrance and walk South across the Plaza to Bldg 15.

By Car and approaching from north of 23rd Street: FDR Drive to the 23rd Street Exit; make a left at the 23rd Street traffic light and go underneath the FDR Drive; make a second left (bearing to the right) at the next traffic light onto the FDR Drive Service Road (along the East River) to 25th Street. Enter the Waterside Plaza complex go past the marina & UNIS. Parking is available for a fee at both the Marina at 23rd Street and at Waterside Plaza. Building 15 is on the Plaza level. To access the Plaza level take the main staircase just north of the parking garage entrance and walk South across the Plaza to Bldg 15.

By Taxi: If coming by taxi, ask the driver to take you to “Waterside Plaza”, when he pulls in, ask him to go straight just past the parking garage you will see a staircase with waterfall & glass elevator. Building 15 is on the Plaza level. To access the Plaza level take the main staircase just north of the parking garage entrance and walk South across the Plaza to Bldg 15.

By subway: Trains 1, 6, E, F, Q, 63 St/6 Ave Shuttle, or W to the 23rd Street station; then take the 23rd Street crosstown bus east (M23) to FDR Drive. Walk under the FDR drive, turn left at the Marina, and walk north two blocks along the East River. Enter Waterside complex, walk straight just past the parking garage you will see a staircase with waterfall & glass elevator. Building 15 is on the Plaza level. To access the Plaza level take the main staircase just north of the parking garage entrance and walk South across the Plaza to Bldg 15.

By bus: Any north or southbound bus to 23rd Street; transfer to the 23rd Street crosstown bus (M23) to the FDR Drive. Walk under the FDR drive, turn left at the Marina, and walk north two blocks along the East River. Or take the 34th Street crosstown bus (M-16 Waterside) east to Waterside Plaza (last stop). Enter Waterside complex, walk straight just past the parking garage you will see a staircase with waterfall & glass elevator. Building 15 is on the Plaza level. To access the Plaza level take the main staircase just north of the parking garage entrance and walk South across the Plaza to Bldg 15.

By foot: Take the pedestrian footbridge at the end of East 25th Street over the FDR Drive and follow the ramp to the left. Walk past water feature & roof access staircase and Bldg 15 will be on your right side.
