The After-School Chess Program at PS 6

There are more sessions in the Fall 2024 calendar!

Chess & Education has a long standing chess tradition at PS6 – since 1992!

Our chess program uses an interactive and hands-on approach for students to learn chess. Students participate in fun and engaging activities that allow them to learn and improve with the game of chess using fun and effective strategies. The program is open to grades K-5. Space is limited, enroll in advance.

Each class has a Student/Coach ratio of 2:16 or better! All classes have 1 coach and 1-2 chess program assistants.

Our staff is made up of professional chess coaches and 3-4 chess program assistants which ensures that our chess program has more than adequate supervision and exceeds the expectations for after school programs, education and care.

Our chess program includes two (2) staff members with First Aid Certification.

The program tuition includes teaching materials, chess equipment, student workbooks, and an award ceremony with trophies and a chess souvenir at the conclusion of the semester.

Novice, Intermediate and Advanced Levels

Chess classes take place in school classrooms, with students assigned to groups based on their chess experience. Getting to know the children is especially important for the placement process. Careful thought and consideration goes into these decisions to ensure that all students get the most out of their chess education. Each semester concludes with a ‘Chessplayer Awards Day’.
